Convert a Hyper-V Virtual Machine to VMware ESXi (vSphere) with vCenter Converter

Thanks to the powerful utility of VMware vCenter Converter, it is quite easy to convert a Microsoft Hyper-V virtual machine into an ESXi vSphere .
With Windows Server 2012 and higher, the operation is very similar to the conversion of the physical machine to virtual that we have already illustrated. With Hyper-V in Windows Server 2008 R2 it is only possible to migrate machines that are turned off, which is why we speak of cold migration.
Let’s see how to do the conversion.
First, download and install VMware vCenter Converter . Then run it and click Convert Machine:

Select Powered-on machine as the source (Windows Server 2012 and higher) and indicate the access credentials and the IP address. If you want to convert a Windows Server 2008 R2 virtual machine, you will have to turn it off and select Hyper-V Server as the source :

Now you must specify the ESX / ESXi node where the virtual machine will be migrated:

Select the target virtual machine or create a new one as in our example:

vCenter Converter will ask you to select the data store:

Now comes the fun part, configure the virtual machine specifying the socket number, CPU, amount of RAM and many other things. We recommend that you enable the installation of VMware Tools from the Advanced tab :

You are now ready to begin the Hyper-v to ESXi conversion . Click Finish and the machine will have been converted:
